Well, it looks like...
Well, it looks like my mare is preggers! We re-bred her on the last day of her cycle last month, since she came back in after we originally bred her, and it's been over the stated twenty-one days and she hasn't came back into season. :-P (or if she has, then she's 'hiding' it and I can't tell, lol... but i think she's preggers, as she's not acting any differently than usual).
Can't wait for next year!
Well congratulations, I hope your mare has a lovely issueless birth.
When is her ultrasound being done?
I wish your mare all the best.
Britt it is late in the year and that mares cycles will not be as long or always 21 days apart.
You need to get that mare an ultrasound.
I just took two mares to be checked after they came back from the breeders and the cost for both was minimal less than 150$.
Take this anyway you want to. It is meant to be advice if you are offended that is your problem.
With your limited resources and knowledge you need to take every precaution possible to avoid costly complications. Not to mention learn more about breeding horses not just taking chances.
You have an older mare that is not an easy keeper that is two strikes against her. How many more are you willing to overlook?
Britt I am certain you mean well but an open mind is an asset not a liability. I am pretty sure if something happened to that mare you would be emotionally devastated. Are you willing to add guilt because you refused good advice?
Good luck. I mean that . Shalom
Didn't post this to get jumped on, posted it as an excited thing, so no need to post in a spot that I will get jumped on. If I decide that I want to get 'flamed' then I'll post in the breeding section.
I don't find much offensive, but one thing I do find offensive is that people continually assume that I'm dumb and stupid. When I post about something exciting that I've done with my horses, or about anything, really, it seems like everyone comes on and jumps on me because, in yalls eyes, what I did was stupid, therefore I must be stupid .
dbarabians, I'm not talking about you here. You're always so nice about things, and understand that my position isn't always the greatest, but you don't flat out say things in a way that makes me feel like you think I'm just some stupid redneck girl who doesn't know crap.
For the person who asked about an ultrasound, I literally can't do that now. Haven't worked in over a week and likely won't be working until the weekend, so no extra money for a while. :(
Ultrasound is one of the cheapest most basic things you can do for your mare, and if you are struggling for that, well I really hope that all is plain sailing for all of you, because most other things will cost far more:cry:
Britt do yourself a favor and stick around. There are a lot of good people here on this forum and they have great advice and years of knowledge that you cannot learn from a book.
Listen to the message not how it is presented.
The people here are concerned about 3 things you, that mare and the expected foal. That I can assure you.
They are frustrated by your rush to get your mare in foal and using methods that might be questionable. Methods that have IMO put you, and the mare in harms way.
They basically want what you do a healthy foal that you can enjoy and keep for the rest of its life.
I have not always agreed with everyone on this forum, sometimes I do not like their responses but I try and learn from them if they post good advice. May I suggest you adopt this habit also.
Your mare deserves every effort you can to ensure a safe pregnancy and delivery of that foal.
You deserve a healthy foal and a live mare. I hope you get both.
If you choose to leave this forum because of a few harsh responses that is your decision to make.
Stick around and you will learn new things and make friends. Shalom
I don't agree and wouldn't do a lot of what the OP does (or doesn't due) but I'm not into beating someone over the head over and over again. I went back and read the OP's other posts and read through all the comments. Everyone has given her excellent advise on how she should go about breeding her horse and confirming that the horse is actually pregnant. Now its time to just back off. She has the words of wisdom from everyone that was kind enough to responded. It is her horse to do with it as she pleases. Repeating the same things over and over again and being condescending is not going to make the OP listen. Its just getting to the point where y'all are no longer being helpful but instead condemning her for not agreeing with your own ways of doing something. What good is going to come from bully the OP? I believe there have been many people that have been articulate in their responses and others that have just been flat out rude and arrogant. Lets go back to the kindergarten rule of "If you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all." Don't waste your time answering to a OP that you know is not going to heed your advise. Give your knowledge to someone that is receptive!!
As for the OP..... I truly hope that if your mare is pregnant that she does not come into any harm. I hope she has a easy pregnancy.
