Debating on selling
I'm debating on selling my horse. I have had her for 3 years. She was my show horse. The past 6 months, I've had a lot more to do then previous years so I don't pay as much attention to her as I used to. During that time she's been getting really aggressive with me. (rearing, bucking etc...) She has thrown me more times in a week then she has the whole time we were together. I don't know what's come over her. It gets me nervous to ride her. My parents can't afford a trainer and I don't have time to train her to behave. I think I should sell her. She is just wasting away in a field but I love her and will miss her. I have grown very attached to her and it might be the hardest thing I have ever done. Please help me! What would you do?
Do you know of any friends of yours that are willing to train for free? Just sounds like your horse has as respect issue.
Sounds like life has gotten in the way, which happens. However, how do you think you can possibly "sell" a horse with behavior issues you describe. You will likely have trouble giving her away. Sorry, but true-it is just the way the market is.
Have you also considered that she may not be well. If she was a show horse and is now throwing you many times a week, to me that does not compute. Maybe she should be checked out to see what's up.
Good horses don't just go bad, have you had a vet, chiropractor or saddle come out and look at her? Can you pay for a trainer to come out for a session and "diagnose" her problem? All these things should be well within a horse owners financial means, after all they do own an expensive large animal. Personally, I wouldn't sell her with all those issues, especially to just any normal rider like yourself. Someone could end up hurt or killed. I might give her away to a trainer. The other thing to consider is where she will end up if you do sell her or give her away. Many problem horses will end up heading to auction, then its highly likely they will head for the slaughter house.
