I wanna trick train Loki

But how to start? :?

Loki is very bonded with me and trusting. He walked up to the 'Scary Plastic Bag Of Doom!' for me (snorting, of course) and is generally pretty responsive and 'gets' things fast. He loves his peppermints to death (comes running at the crinkle of a wrapper!) which I suppose is a pretty cheap training tool xD

Anyone know were I could find some free E-books? Videos? I want to start with the simplest (like smiling) and work up from there. I'm trying to teach my three year old to smile currently, he does it if you tickle his nose but not on command >.<!

Also! Nothing like 'please' or rearing O-O Just cute things like 'smile', 'kiss', 'bow'...Sammy was aparrently taught to say 'please' at feeding time and now he digs up my pasture when he sees the bucket O-o
"Oo! Food! PLEASE!" -stomp stomp stomp-

This is kind of a silly trick I've tried before .... It's how to get your horse to "hug you." Begin with a piece of carrot or some kind of treat. Stand against your horse's side, at the shoulder and hold the treat in your right hand. Call her name and let her know the treat is there, then bring her hand back towards her barrel so that she has to reach around you to get it (therefore hugging you, lol). Repeat this a couple times with treats and then try without treats. Eventually your horse should turn her neck around and hug you, without a treat. Make sure to pat her when she does it. :-P

There's lots of other little ones like this, such as teaching your horse to kiss you or bow. I would suggest starting with something small and then working your way up. I'm sure you could find a book on Trickanometry at your local tack store as well.

I taught my horse to kiss me, but I dont plan on teaching him anything else.
Its so easy I figured out how to teach him without reading articles etc.
I just started kissing his nose and then giving him a treat, and quickly he learned to reach for my lips instead of me having to reach to him.

xD Thanks guys, I'm plotting out evil ways to get Loki to 'smile' for me. It's just to cute when they do it. I gotta get pictures of Red in action

Oh oh oh! I'm planning on trick training Bundy, as well. He will follow me around with no halter, back up, side pass, turn on haunches etc. And i've got bareback/bridleless riding pretty much down pat... So the next logical step is tricks! he he!

Bow and such are things I want to do... Maybe standing on a pedestal. Standing on his back to crack a whip is the first thing i'm going to start work on...

Can't wait for some great advice :]

Twogeldings, what do you mean when you say 'smile'?
