It was a eventing horse being used for jumpers.

That shouldn't make any difference if it was an Eventing Horse. Eventing Horses are well rounded mounts - who train regularily in all 3 disciples. Dressage, Stadium and CC. Eventing horses - do jumpers.

Sounds like incorrect riding on approach to the fence, not the horses discpline.

And back to topic:

Standards - I googled for you -

Lorien Stable - How to Build Jump Standards

Here are some pictures of standards - so you can get an idea of basic jump standards:

This one has trellice *sp* on the standards. You can wrap fake flowers in them or hang pots of flowers on them or whatever you want:

This one has just planks of wood across these basic standards:

This one is a Well. I thought it was really neat!

These one's are really cool:

Hope my pictures helped ya. Just get the basic idea - you can jazz up basic standards however you want :)

No the horse was crazy. Alot event horses are you'd have to be to jump a solid wood fence at 6 foot high.

Here's an example of a pretty basic standard. It's basically a wood square post with holes drilled every 3 inches. The wood at the bottom keeps it upright

6 foot huh.... Soooo that must equate to like 6 star level :?

You need to start being more careful with what you post. NO educated event rider would take an crazy horse on course.
Those horses are trained very carefully to jump the heights they do, which FYI are not 6 ft, maybe four at most (1.2m anyway). They are brought through the lower levels and TRAINED to do what they do.

Now I admit I havent competed up to 3 star, and Im not some great knowledgable event rider, but I have schooled up to 1 star, and I CAN tell you that even at the lower levels those fences demand respect and absolute trust in your horse, as well as a great deal of skill from both horse and rider. You cant just gallop blindly and expect a favorable outcome. And you cant just hop on any old horse and have them clear these obsticals.

The statement you made was uneducated, and insulting to people who partake in the sport and put a great deal of effort into finding a suitable horse and then training it.

Thanks for your post Miss Katie - I really had to bite my tongue and walk away because I would of said much worse. You should of seen my first post I made, but I erased it and retyped it after seeing what I had said, and left it at that.
