Pulling a Friesians mane?
Hello, i would like some preferences. Now, hes not full Friesian, but would it look weird if i pulled his mane? It just gets in the way so much, but im not sure if it would be against his breeding? What do you think?
I would be very reluctant to pull his mane. Part or full, it's typically not suggested to pull, clip, etc. their manes. There are some exceptions to this, of course, but not the typical that I've found in any of the pure or part bred that I know and have seen.
I don't see why you couldn't. It's your horse, your choice.
It may not be tradition for his breeding, but you gotta do what you gotta do LOL. Whether it's because the mane is in the way or because you need to maybe braid him up for shows, whatever is going to be best for you and him is what you need to do.
Have you tried doing a running braid on him? That might work just as well and maybe save you the trouble of having to pull that thick mane (would be a ton of work LOL).
Smrobs; Ive tried doing running braids(without success) lol. But since hes away to be trained and the trainer is saying that if i ever get the chance to think about pulling his mane, but letting it grow back after training, just so she can see the positioning of the neck which is so hard to see under the hunk of hair. Lol.
That's as good a reason as any :D.
Pre and post pictures are an absolute must!
This is what we mean by never being able to see his neck. Lol.
I need to redo this guy's mane, obviously haha, but it's a way of getting the neck more visible+cooler while keeping the mane...if that's something you desire.
Some horses are messier about these braids than others [those^ braids are 2 weeks out from braiding, while my mare can go a month without needing to rebraided] of course, so it might be too much work.
I only braid manes during the summer because of sweat/moisture under the hair but it works year round.
In any case, he's your horse, do what you'd like! And if it looks terrible, it'll grow back.
Wallaby; thats what were doing now, but he keeps trying to rub them out.
I wish my boy had a quarter of that mane!
