Showmanship Nod
Hey all! So I'm getting back into showing showmanship after a 7 year break. When I used to show (and I'm trying really hard to remember!), I would nod at the judge after they nodded at me when they were ready for me to begin my pattern. Then, after the inspection, the judge would nod at me and I would nod back before pivoting, and I would look back to the judge a few times as I was walking/trotting away to line up. This is what my trainer told me to do, what everyone else did, and I almost always won.

Today, I read an article that says do NOT nod at the judge when they are done with the inspection, or look back at them as you walk/jog away to line up. And I am completely confused!

My question for all of you that HAVE showed in the past few years is, what's the correct thing to do?

When you complete you complete your inspection & you leave walk or trot away no you don't look back or nod back at judge:wink:

Don't look back and nod, it seems like hesitation. Just confidently end your pattern.
Some open/local judges like it, but at higher levels you never ever look back.

No you don't nod or look back. When the judge says you can start your show most people say thank you and then start but not everyone does (In Ireland). Then at the end of your show you salute the judge and again you can say thank you :)

I nod at the beginning of the pattern - when they nod at me. I exit without looking back and nodding, however, partially because I think I'd trip over my own feet. ;)

The judge's nod is to signal you to start, he's not greeting you, so don't nod back at any time.
