Your opinion on Jane Savoie
Wanted to start a thread on Jane Savoie. She seems to be big in the dressage world.

What do y'all think of her? Have you been to her clinics? Do you subsribe to "Dressage Mentor"? Do you have any of her books/CDs/Videos?

I have not been to any of her clinics but have her videos and subscribe to her dressage mentor.
I really like her, she's easy to follow and understand.

That's great! Can't wait to hear what you think! I subsribe to dressage mentor as well and do have some of her dvds.

She is really good at explaining the most difficult concepts in a way that makes sense to me.

Love her books, but would much rather ride in her clinics than watch them. She's helpful to the riders, but not at entertaining from an auditing perspective.

I just came home from her clinic as I'm writing this. I wanted to do it while it was all fresh.

The facility the clinic was held at was very nice. It was bring your own seating. The PA system was clear and not shrieky, which is always pleasant. We had horses from training level through 4th/Prix St Georges. Check in was quick and they gave out complimentary notebooks and pens.

She covered a variety of issues and even let the riders pick some things to work on. I mention this because I've been to clinics where the clinician has this mental checklist and literally runs everyone through the same exercises over and over. She mixed it up and while a few things did come up each lesson, they were explained and run through so that the rider knew how to do it. She didn't expect to try to resolve an issue in the 45 minute ride, but aimed to give the rider new tools to tackle the problem with.

During the lunch break, she kind of disappeared. Admittedly, I would have liked to have been able to socialize with her a bit but at the same time I can understand the need for a full break. She did have things for sale, but only mentioned them once. She also mentioned her dressage website once. She didn't press people to buy her things and didn't give out partial information and tell you to buy her material for more. She did answer some questions people had about which DVD's covered certain aspects of her training method, and she did give a little explanation of that.

At the end of the clinic, she signed books but no one really lingered. I asked her a couple of questions at the end about my horse specifically, and she really pleased me by answering (I was hopeful but not expectant).

I don't show, so I have no idea what show level I would be at. However, I felt like I came away with a lot of things that I could apply to my horse. She explained her concepts and also her terminology. She explained the why and then the how of things. I liked that she explained her terminology because I've found that so many people use certain phrases and then don't quite all mean the exact same specific set of things. She explained her phrasing, what she meant, and what she wanted the rider to do. We as auditors even got to chime in a little bit.

All in all, I had a good experience. I came away with concepts and a breakdown of how to apply them, and what to look for in a way that I really feel that I can do them on my own with my horse.

Love her!! I'd recommend subscribing to her you tube channel. There's some very useful videos!

I have watched some of her youtube videos and find them easy to follow and apply to your own riding, so that is nice. I guess having your own trainer (if he's qualified and you like his style) is always better than watching online videos, but it's good for inspiration.
