question about bedding!
Well today we bought some corn cob bedding for the stall.. We put it down and introduced her to it, and she started eating the bedding! JUst want to know if this will hurt her, or make her sick.. If we need to take it out we will! Please help....
From what I have read in the past, corncob bedding is all fiber so shouldn't hurt the horse if they ingest it. At the same time, what I also read is that it is normal for a horse to nibble at it at first and then they usually stop after a period of time.
well thank you very much, just was kinda worried about her.. i dont need her sick, just got her back to where she needs to be after the other people had her, and didnt feed her right..
My mare did the same thing! I used the wood pellets, put her in and caught her chomping down on them. I could picture her mentally thinking "SCORE! My bed is full of FOOD!"
I just soaked them down very thoroughly for a while and gradually started leaving them a little drier as I went. She's fine now. I haven't seen her eating them since. I don't know if her palatte improved or she just adjusted to the pellets.
