Riding my friend's horse.
These were all taken with a camera phone. This is the first time I've ever ridden Maizy. I know I'm big on her.
You need to shorten your reins.. a LOT.
Do you want a riding critique, horse critique or both?
I just woke up, so bear with me through my awful critique.
The title mentions the horse, so I will start there:
She is super cute, first off!!
She is really really behind the vertical in a lot of the photos. From the photos, it looks like the rider is riding with a very strong hand, which will contribute to the horse trying to evade the bit.
She looks fairly tense through the back as well, and you can see her wringing her tail in a few of the pictures. I would suggest taking it a step back and letting her stretch, and really seeking the contact instead of bent up like a question mark.
It seems like a lot of emphasis was put on "head down" and not much on "forward motion" and that is quite backwards. Once the horse is working from the hind end, THEN the head can start to come into place.
She is a cute mover, I think she would make a spectacular show pony!
I agree with shorten your reins. And look up. Most of the pictures you're looking at the horse.
Very pretty horse though!
Yeah, she is way behind the vertical. I really tried to just let her relax but she is very high strung under saddle. I think it's the Arab in her. But that's why my reins were long. I tried not to be too hands on, but that might not have worked as planned. But like I said, it's my friend's horse and that was the one and only time I've ridden her. And in my friend's defense, this horse has lost a good 100 lbs in a little under a year, and really hasn't been ridden before my friend got her last summer.
shes cute! and I think she has potential.
Why kind of bit is it? Have her teeth been checked for sharp points? She's trying really hard to not touch that bit. Cute horse. I love Arabs.
she is super cute.
She is ridden in a D-ring snaffle. I don't know when she got her teeth done, but I know she is completely up to date.
All I'm going to say is that you need to shorten your reins, lengthen your arms and stop playing the piano in your crotch.
Your ams are very harsh looking, you need to turn your hands so your thumbs are pointing to her ears and your knuckles are pointing down, then you literally need to rest your knuckles on the horse and ride to your hands while shortening your reins accordingly. Then bring your shoulders to your hips and look up.
In the pictures where she is very BTV you are pulling. To stop her "hotness" you need to be more consistent and give her a constant contact with your legs and up front. Then work on transitions to get her hind end working, and get her so you are able to ride to your hands without pulling.
