Fore quarter jump
How do they train a cutting horse to jump his fore quarters side to side when blocking a cow?

You mean spin around on his hind end?

One - they are bred for it. Having a cutting bred horse that is quick and naturally cowy helps a ton.
Two - tons of slow work, rollbacks, backing up, getting that horse to naturally break over his hocks and be on their hind end.
Three - ton of flag and cow work. To teach a horse to work a cow takes a lot of time - to do it properly sometimes years.

Yep, kinda thought that. Agree with what you have said.

I've done roll backs from the beginning on her and really started asking for a lot more out of her this past week. I've been backing serpinteens and really asked for a lot and she has jumped from side to side several times pretty darn good. Not great but really showing promise.

Ya, just takes a lot of work and time. My 5 year old cutting bred can do it easier then our big 16.3hh rope horse. Just the way she is built she wants to roll over on the hocks. The big guy while has no problem working off his hind end isn't really built to move as catty as she is.
