Lead encouragement help!
Jack is kind of green. We can pick up the correct lead on the flat pretty much every time. It's only when we go over fences that it becomes a problem. On a straight line chances are he'll pick up the wrong lead. I try bringing him to the jump with an inside/outside bend (whatever I need for the lead) But are there any other ways to encourage him to pick up the correct lead after a jump?

Opening the inside rein a little while in the air sometimes helps.

Well I would make sure I was not leaning to either side. And I would try to get him to bend to the inside.

I was working with a green horse that often picked up the wrong lead after the fence. I just did a change after but I took a clinic with a trainer who said, if you're balanced to the fence and stay very very still through the fence the horse will land on the correct lead. have to admit, i was kind of skeptical. i'm pretty still over the fence anyways but i took her advice and we worked on that during the days i rode with her. by the end of the week? was landing on the correct lead almost every single time! it was a very miniscule change, but one that made a huge difference!
