How is my boy's conformation?
So, I'm really not the best at telling how conformation is.. actually, I have no clue. What can you tell me about my 16.1 hand appendix quarter horse's conformation? He's six, just to let you know. I think something looks off in the way he stands sometimes.. What do you think?
Here are a couple of photos that show off the funky way he stands:
I dunno, he just looks a bit off to me.. maybe I'm looking too much into this.
Okay, so other than his legs, I can't find much wrong with the way he looks.. but then again I'm terrible at telling these things lol
I don't really have a good conformation photo, but I have a couple that kind of show his conformation.
And yes, I know he needs to put some weight on, I'm working on that, and he looks a lot better now than he did back a couple months ago when I took these pictures.
Weak topline, high withers, possible ewe neck, and he appears cowhocked.
Front legs seem slightly off to me, but we'd need actual conformation pictures to tell.

It looks like his left toe points out? That's what's most noticeable

Hey, so I have a better conformation picture now!
Just to let you know, this horse is ridden maybe once a week by me in lessons. He isn't mine, but I like to think he is and I usually call him "my boy". So, if he looks like he could use some more muscle tone, I can't do anything about it because I can only ride him about once a week. I unfortunately don't have the money to lease him at the moment, although I'd really like to one day. Also, he's just coming into the idea of collection, bending, and actually working off of the hind end, just in case that has anything to do with his weak topline. Thanks!
he's a very nice looking horse and you should be really happy to have such a nice lease horse. He looks very thoroughbred like, and has decent conformation. His hind legs are a tiny bit camped out behind, but it's minimal. he does have a ewe neck and will benefit from more riding . Honestly, he may be a bit under-muscled in some spots, but he's also really in good condition overall. Don't worry so much about him. he looks to be in good health and generally good conformation. certainly functional.
enjoy him and don't waste a minute thinking he is "less than".
