Getting my paso this week! Help with a name :)
I'm super excited- I've been living in Puerto Rico for five years now and have finally decided its time for a horse. I grew up with horses but haven't owned since college. Never ridden a paso till moving here but now I'd never go back.
After two months of looking I found a great little mare who I love- sweet, great gait and we'll trained. Comes from a good reputable person which is important here! She hasn't been used much lately and she is not full paso (she gaits just fine but no papers- down here they're called chongos), but that's not a big deal to me.
Anyways this post is part just being excited!! And partially, I need a name for her! She's a 8 yr old mare, chestnut, strikes me as a very pretty, feminine face, lighter build, about 14.1h. I'd like something Spanish or Taino since we're in puerto rico (My best idea now is 'colibri' Taino for hummingbird) input appreciated!! Trying to post pic from phone...,
I'm sure i'll be back with many paso related questions- Thank you!

pics! only a couple... hope to have some better ones after I pick her up tomorrow... (also forgot to mention, she does not currently have a name at all!)
Congrats on your new mare...she's a cutie! My family is from Puerto Rico. :-)
A few name possibilities I found were:
Tanama - Butterfly
Cacica - female supreme chief, ruler
Karaya - moon
Kokuyo - firefly
Tekina - leader
Ture - heaven
Good luck with her!! Sounds like you'll be riding around the island in full comfort. :-)
Thanks SoldOnGaited - those are some good options. I like Karaya.... :)
Do you ever get over to the island?
The last time I went was in 2007. I'm wayyy past overdue for a return visit. If only my wallet agreed with me LOL.
Where did you live before you moved to PR?
From Colorado and Washington state but I've been here for 5 years - we love it- not to mention you can ride and keep horses anywhere!
She is so cute!! Congratulations on your new baby!
I was born and raised in PR and rode Paso Finos until we moved to the states when I was 16. I miss it so much!
I like the name "Yukiyu", the Taino name for El Yunque :)
I don't have any name ideas but she is adorable! What a sweet face.
Congrads on the new baby. My gal has a paso TWH mix and he is a great ride. He can do a couple of different gaits which makes it interesting on show day.:-) Enjoy !!!
