Deciding on a half pad!
I'm on the hunt for a half pad. I really wanted something that would absorb shock, because I'll be most likely be moving up to the 3'-3'6" jumps this spring. I've pretty much narrowed it down between 4, but I'm very open to hearing what half pads you use and prefer. (p.s my saddle fits perfectly now, I'm just looking for extra comfort for my horse/shock absorption)
Heres the first one, an Ogilvy: https://ogilvyequestrian.com/details.php?id=22 (its a tad pricey.. Are they worth it?)
Heres the second, a gel/sheepskin combo: Shedrow Sheepskin Gel Pad | RIE0146 | Greenhawk
The third, a untrimmed thinline: https://www.horseloverz.com/product/...-half-pad.html
And finally, the Thinline Trifecta https://www.horseloverz.com/product/...-half-pad.html
I'd love to hear any input! Thanks!! :-)
If your saddle fits perfectly then it wont fit with a pad.:?
Not even with the thinline ultra? :(
A saddle needs to be fitted with any pads you wish to use, or a pad is used to make a too wide a saddle fit better.
Okay that makes sense! Thank you! From what I've heard the Ultras are supposed to be super thin! I was looking mainly into the Ogilvy though, since it's memory foam, but they are really thick. I'll probably go with the thinner one!
Go with the thinline trifecta. My saddle fits perfect and my regular thinline does not affect the fit.
I bought an Ogilvy but returned it because I hated it. I loved the idea of memory foam and comfort for my horse but every time I used it I hated it. for me it was a very different "feel".
this is only my opinion but I felt like I couldn't "feel" my horse underneath me. I also felt like I was significantly farther from my horse (obviously I wasn't that much farther from my horse lol) . I rode with it a handful of times and gave up, perhaps if I stuck with it I may have gotten used to it but I didn't feel it was worth it. also felt different in my seat (I talked to the saddle fitter and she said it sounded like I was describing the twist to be wider) sorry if I'm not making sense. this pad may work for you for jumping but I didn't like it for dressage :)

Thank you guys for your opinions! Definatly a lot to think about! I'm very indecisive too which doesn't help! lmao
also greenhawk sells a memory foam half pad that looks identical to Ogilvy but it's only $100. I have not tried the one from greenhawk but saw it in the store and it looked the same.
