do you need to grind flaxseed?
like the title says, do you need to grind flaxseed for it to have any benefit?

No, I have fed whole flaxseed before to the same effect. The only reason I buy ground now is because it's cheaper then whole at my feed store, for some unknown reason.

No, you do not need to grind it. But if you do, feed it right away because after it's ground it will spoil fairly quickly.

Feeding whole is fine. In fact, my horse seems to prefer the whole over the stabilized ground stuff that I bought last time I was at the feed store. As soon as I run out, it's back to whole!

You don't need to grind it at all. I feed it whole, boiled into a porridge with French white millet. It helps put top line on and will also help clear sand out of the gut
