Should I roach John's mane?

Okay, okay. I know I am one of the biggest advocates of the "leave the hair natural" club but John's mane is so thick and unruly. The base of the mane is so wide that I cannot get it all to lay on one side and look good no matter what I do. The base is at lease an inch and a half wide because his silly neck is so big. I am seriously considering roaching it short just to make it easier to manage. I know that most horses don't pull off a roached mane well but I think he has a good neck for it. Please tell me what you think.

Thanks.
Here are some pix for referance.

I think he'd look cute with it roached. I have kind of the same problem with my gelding, no matter what i do i cant get all of it to lay one direction so i roached his and he looks like a stallion bc he has a very nice mane. I say go for it.

Do it! And then post a picture!

I've only ever seen one horse with a roached mane. It was an Arab mare and it was because she got bit in her withers and they had to cut the lower half or her mane to keep it out of her owwie, so they just did it all. She was super cute. =]

I would say yes, I find that generally only horses with a larger crest actually look good with a roached mane, but your boy is definitely big enough.

Yes yes yes!

He would look like a trojan war horse!

I disagree, I think a lot of horses pull off a roached mane :]

I even roached my little arabs mane after a friend butchered it with shears, and he looked spunky!

I'm with everyone else. Roach it. He will really suit it.

I agree - roach it! And then post pictures!

I quite like the look of roached horses. The horses on our dairy farm where I grew up were all roached. Of course they were stochhorses.

Well I hate to be the nah sayer but I would go with no.

You don't have to raoch the man but just pull some of the under hairs. You can also braid the man to train it to go to one side. just braid it and leave it in for three days and repeat. or you can use a bit of hair gel and brush it over. or use a combination of both.

also consider that your horse uses it mane for flie protection. I was looking at the photos and it looks like your horse is out for most of the day or even twenty four seven. It may look neat but do consider it does take a while for the mane to grow back.

I just thought I would thourgh my two cents in but it is your desicsion.
