Butter cups I am aware that butter cups are posionious to horses. Someone told me that if a horse eats a buttercup it can not only make them sick but it can also cause them to founder. Has anyone else heard this? It doesn't really make sense to me. Thanks. |
WikiAnswers - Are buttercup flowers poisonous to horses This site explained it very well. Hope it's helpful to you. I have buttercups growing around my paddock in some in the pastures. Horses really do stay clear of them, although when I see them growing I YANK them out anyways. |

So far the only damage they have done to Misty is when she rolls on them and gets tonnes of little yellow patches which won't come off  |
I imagine if they eat tons and tons it will make them sick, and maybe founder, but I'm pretty sure just one buttercup won't hurt them. As long as your horse is fed adequately, they won't feel the need to dine on the buttercups. Horses typically know what they should and shouldn't eat. =] |
ive never heard of that story "myth" but did u guys know that my mare LOVES to eat cat tails, ( the plant ) :p she absolutely loves them. i dont feed them to her on a regular basis or anything but occasionally ill give her some and she just loves em. she also like to eat bread haha |
