Pregnancy Woes :(
Well Im pregnant for the first time and couldnt be more miserable with the whole thing.
My husband and I are married and although children were part of the plan it wasnt supposed to happen for at least another year. I got pregnant on the pill just a few weeks before our wedding on Sep 7th. Im about 14 weeks now.
For starters the morning sickness has been awful for me. Like vomiting 8-10 times a day not able to keep anything down awful. Its finally just now subsiding at week 14 so yay for that I guess. Sucks :(
Then there is the newly developed back pain. Its not like your run of the mill ouch my back must have pulled/twisted something but more like holy crap I think I just got hit by a train someone please put me out of my misery type pain :( Ive been laid up in bed for 3 days now and its not getting better at all. It starts in my lower back and travels into my right hip and leg making it almost impossible to walk. I can barely get up and down myself today. Its been kinda coming and going, always there but sometimes much more severe then other times.
Everyone keeps telling me its my body adjusting to the baby etc and I know some back pain is normal but my god should I seriously be in this much pain? This morning I laid on my bed and cried for 15 mins because I couldnt get my pants on :cry:
Ive done some reading and Im trying to stay active but its hard considering I can barely get down the hallway to the bathroom without clutching at the walls for support. Standing is getting to the point where its unbearable and laying down is no better. Its keeping me up nights and Tylenol is barely touching the pain.
Im considering a trip to the docters if I think Im up to the 45 min ride in the car as sitting upright is especially painful but Im nervous their just going to tell me its part of pregnancy and to deal with it.
Hubby at least has been great through it all. Hes working 11 hour days so hes gone all day but luckily we just gave up our crappy apartment to save some money and moved into my moms so there are lots of people around to fetch me things and help me move around if I need it.
Sorry for the big long everyone feel bad for me post :( I know I prolly sound like a baby but seriously, this hurts and I had to rant as everyone in my house is sick of hearing about it.
Anyone have any words of wisdom or similar experiences? Would love to hear, horseforum is about the only thing thats been getting my mind off the pain.
I had awful morning sickness with my first pregnancy. Ended up losing 20lbs in less than three weeks because I couldn't eat anything and even when I didn't eat, I'd still vomit.
As for the back pain, as far as I know, that much pain isn't normal.

yea the more I read the more I think a trip to the walk in DR or ER is in order. I hate to be a baby and hate asking for help but its getting ridiculous :(
I have been pregnant three times and each pregnancy was different, but with my daughter I had all day sickness for 6 months. I lost weight instead of gaining. Terrible back pain that started in my lower back and went down my leg to my foot. So I feel your pain. I found almonds and yogurt helped me with the nausea, the doctor gave me a prenatal vitamin with an extra B vitamin don't remember which one that was supposed to help with the nausea. But if you can keep something in your stomach it will help. It is probably you sciatic nerve getting pinched somehow causing your back pain, fortunately I had a good chiropractor that was able to give me some relief.
Try to stay focused on the end result of all this pain a beautiful new baby and you will forget all the sickness and pain it took to get him/her here.
Gssw5 is probably right, the back pain you are describing sounds just like sciatic nerve pain. It is horriable pain and unfortunately there is not much that will help. Sometimes a heating pad on the lowest setting may give some relief.
Believe it or not most pregnant women will get sick when there is nothing in their stomach, so try to eat small meals through out the day. I know it may not sound right but the pregnancy hormones cause vomiting on an empty stomach, don't give it the opportunity. Put crackers beside your bed and eat before you get up, keep crackers or granola bars in your purse, always have a snack handy. Ginger and pepermint help with nausea, ginger snap cookies and peppermint gum or candies are great to have around.

MyBoySi, I can relate to your situation. I became pregnant early in our marriage, and although we knew we wantd children, we hadn't counted on it happening quite so soon! We were just starting out, money was tight...we were scared. I sat down on dh's lap and cried when we found out.
That sweet, unexpected baby is now a wonderful 19 year old and we wouldn't change a thing. It will be ok. It really will. : )
I agree with MsLady's tips for fighting nausea, and that what you are describing sounds like sciatic pain -- I had some of that myself, but not as sever as it sounds like you are experiencing. I wonder if there are suggestions onine form ways to relieve that. I think there probably are some, and let your doctor know as well. I seem to remember things like side-sleeping with a pillow between the knees, and propping one foot up on a short step stoop when doing activities that require a lot of stwnding, like washing dishes.
Do keep moving. One word of caution, however. Hormonal changes are going to cause tissues (ligaments?) to become more elastic and you may feel more flexible than normal -- be aware of over stretching.
Good luck. I know parenting is a huge adjustment, and it's a lot of responsibility and yes, it is work, but it's such a sweet time of life too. Keep us updated!
It will be a distant memory and all be totally worth the sickness, etc when you hold that baby in your arms for the first time.
I would go and get checked out. Even if that much pain is "normal", the drs can still give you something that is safe to take so you can manage the pain and have a relatively normal existence. Same thing with the morning sickness - there are plenty of anti-nausea medications that are very safe for pregnant mums to take.
You're not being a baby. Your body is making a whole new person, which is a pretty big deal. It's ok to admit that it hurts sometimes :-)
I'm currently 26 weeks pregnant with my first. At around 20 weeks my back began hurting much like you described, then my hip to where every step hurt. My doctor wasn't concerned when I told her... I ended up going to a massage therapist who offered prenatal massages, I felt more comfortable knowing that way. It helped a ton, I could walk without pain afterwards, my hip hasn't hurt me since, my back still hurts when sitting but not near as bad. I've been back once and probably will be again. I recommend it. Also warm bathes. I haven't tried a heating pad yet.
No problem with whining, it's not always the most comfortable experience. The reward will be worth it though, that's all I keep telling myself.

First of all congrats on expecting a baby!
There are some prescribed meds (over the counter did nothing for me) that help the vomiting tremendously (speaking from own experience :wink: ).
As for the back, I'd say 14 weeks is a little too early to have it that bad. I'd check with dr (possibly not gyn but orthopedic, just let them know you are expecting!). Also you may consider getting back support band (I used one starting 6th month).
Wishing you all the best! After you give a birth you'll be laughing about all the pain and bad days. At least I did and still do. :)
