I have a problem with Spirit. I was bathing him a couple days ago and I noticed that neer his sheath their were . . . it's kind of hard to explain . . . like little dots. They were red, yellow, but mostly black. They were small, and looked a little like tiny multi-colored grains of sand (of course they weren't). So I took the curry comb and scrubbed. Some came off, but most stayed on. I found the same thing under his chin. Under his chin there were also 2 black scab-looking things. I didn't know what to do and Ryan wasn't there (barn manager), so I put Swat under his chin and near his sheath.
When I came back today, it looked better, but I noticed that at the very top of his leg up next to his sheath he had little red dots. I tried to touch them, but he flinched every time I did. I found some small fly-things hanging onto his leg. I brushed them all off (some were on his belly too) and I put more Swat on. When Ryan came, I asked him. He said to wash off the Swat, buy Ivory soap, lather it into a paste, wait 15 minutes, then wash it off. We did that but we were in a REAL big hurry, so it wasn't as good as it could have been. I also put the Swat back on before we left him in his Stall.
Are they eggs near his sheath and under his chin? It doesn't look like it hurts him. The fly bite thingys were only on his white/pinkish part of his leg and they hurt him. Ryan says that if they were eggs, the Ivory soap would kill them and if that doesn't work, he has a plan B (I don't know what though).
I just emailed my vet but if anyome else can tell me that would help TREMENDOUSLY.
