Why does my English saddle have white spots??

I recently cleaned my English saddle and in a few days it started to get white spots on it as well as dry spots. I don't know what is going on. I have the spray on soap, and I use conditioner. Don't know what is happening.

Is it kept somewhere damp? I don't use any conditioners or spray soaps just traditional saddle soap (and Kochocaline if old leather which is dry and hard).

It might be mold.

Yes, that is what I wondered :-)

Mold was my first thought as well.

Probably mold, means too much moisture in the leather. Try to keep it indoors & stop conditioning it for a while. Just wipe it down with a soft cloth.

Or, depending, it could just be soap residue (:

One time I used a saddle soap out of a spray bomb. It came out as a white foam but as I worked it in with a damps sponge the white disappeared. The next morning, to my horror the entire saddle was white. I gave it a wipe with a damp cloth, with a lot of rinsing and wringing and the leather returned to it's natural color.

If it looks like mold or mildew, wiping the saddle down with some vinegar and warm water will stop it from coming back.
