First barrel saddle questions..

Okay, so, im going to be buying my first saddle. :D

ABETTA Connie Combs Barrel Racer Saddle Barrel Racer Saddles Western HorseLoverZ.com

I just had a few questions though..

What do you think about Abetta synthetic saddles?

and, What are some good tips on how to properly fit a saddle?

I know my horse would need a regular tree, with semi-QHB.

But what else is there to look for?

And pictures would help ALOT!

Also, what would you recommend for barrel racing saddle pads?

Thanks in advance!!!

My mare has pretty much no withers, so would that make a difference?

sorry for the billion questions, i just want some good advice.

I really don't like synthetic western saddles. I don't think they hold up as well.

What is your price range and I can show you some I like?

LeahKathleen 06-15-2009 12:52 AM

I agree with SD about synthetic westerns... they just don't have as much structure. I can show you several that I like for around that price that are all leather.

As for saddle pads, I love my SMx Air Ride Charmayne James saddle pad. :]

yes, please do on showing me the saddles you like!

What is your price range?

I have a silver royal I paid $550 for. It has held up amazing and is super comfy.

I also like pro-rider and Circle Y

Rider's Choice sells through e-bay, and they are based in Alabama. I have never used one, but everyone who has one says there's not one thing they would change. They get amazing reviews, and they make a really classy barrel saddle for around $400.

eBay Store ? Riders Choice Saddle Pad Co: Search results for riders choice.

This is what I ride in:

Ozark Saddle King Of Texas Rodeo Star 1320 - www.Scruggsfarm.com

BUT I KNOW you can get it for $395 @ eatonranchsaddleshop.com - but their site was down. I LOVE it and it's about 16 years old. So comfortable.

Ozark saddle king barrel at TheFind.com - search, discover and compare prices

There's the link. It's the bottom left picture - but the site is down for some reason.

Leah, That last saddle is SO nice.. im torn between that and the abetta synthetic.

I really want the synthetic because its easy to clean, and because this is my first saddle, i know its not going to last forever, thats why i dont want a leather one. I wanna make sure im going to stick with barrel racing before i start looking at leather saddles.

But i really like the look of the leather saddles. they are so sharp looking.

GUH! someone make this easy!
haha its harder to choose a saddle then it is to choose a car!

Also, my trainer said that Abetta saddles run somewhat narrow. my horse isnt all that wide, but im trying to find a good synthetic quality saddle with FQHB. and its IMPOSSIBLE to find! heh.

Spastic_Dove 06-15-2009 11:11 PM

If youre choosing between Leah's and an Abettaa, go with the one she posted. I find the Abetta's fairly uncomfortable to ride in and not worth the money. Even if you don't stick with barrel racing, resale on a leather saddle (if you take care of it) is going to be better than a Synthetic.

Jillyann 06-15-2009 11:24 PM

well the abetta saddle that i have posted in the first post, i've ridden in the SAME one. my friend kimmy has it. and i really do like it alot. and if worse comes to worse, my trainer would probably buy it off me for the lesson kids at the barn.

but i definitely see where your coming from, about how i should go with the one leah posted.

its just a tough choice because i dont want to get a saddle, and have it not fit my horse.
and im NOT made of money, so my budget is about 500$ max.
