What do you think of this guy?

L I N T A S 9888899 Highest stallion bonits in Holsteiner history!!

I had the privilege of meeting him in person- this horse is truly amazing. What are your thoughts?

Would he make a nice baby with an appendix QH mare? >.>

I doubt they would let him be crossed with a QH....

I get he's a stallion.... but ^^.

He looks like a really tall Welsh Pony. Nice enough in a technical way but not what I would look at for that sort of horse. He also looks PISSED and hard to ride in all his under saddle pictures.

From that one page I would not breed to him, and I'm no expert.

Yes I agree on the neck crest. Not sure if its just a Holsteiner thing or... him. Honestly those pics are not the best, he is way more impressive in person- not just because he's a big bad horse lol.

I wasn't seriously considering breeding to him though.

What sort of stallion WOULD you look at, for a very thoroughbred-type mare? She's tall and very fine boned- would like more bone honestly.

It's not "just a Holsteiner thing." I've known a few Holsteiners and NONE of them had a huge cresty neck like that. That honestly looks how my old gelding's neck looked because his owners tied his head down to his chest and he fought it constantly, so he developed huge unsightly neck muscles from being forced into frame all the time and fighting it.

IDK if it's a Holsteiner thing or not, but not to that degree!
I would definitely look at the conformation pictures first, but if he has a great temperament and presence in person that does count for a lot.

Something BIG is my answer. From the sound of it I would be even less inclined to breed this guy to a mare like yours. I know we are being hypothetical but what would you want to do with the foal? Does it need to be a Hanoverian? I would probably pick a heavy warmblood to cross to. Bring out the nice QH size and keeping the TB build. Especially if your mare is light of bone.

I don't thing he is a good cross. He seems so front end heavy because of his neck. He has a long back. And there just isn't anything spectacular that makes me go wow! About him.

To find a good cross for your mare, we'd need to see pictures. If she's that light boned, I wouldn't breed her at all. You take the best + the best and hope for the best. Anything "average" or below average shouldnt be bred.

His neck is not a problem for me. He is after all an aged stallion.
With his score at the inspection , those of his foals, and his ability in the show ring I would consider breeding to him if I wanted a warmblood.
Now if he would cross well with an appendix mare is another issue. If she was more TB and not too lightly built then perhaps yes.
You might contact his owners and see if they are willing to approve your mare for breeding. You might want to get her approved in one of the warmblood or sporthorse registires.
Either way good luck. Shalom
