we're not sure how this happend, but some time in the middle of night some one came on to our farm, got in to our horse pen and tried to ride abby ( body shape sweat marks on her back and down her neck tell it all) from her right front fetlock to her her knee she is some what cut up on the out side along the cannon bone, her knee is a little hot and puffed out, i spent about 30 mins hosing her knee with cool water and cleaning out the cuts and slabbing on furazone, the vet will be out on tuesday to see her for a t shot, i usually slab on diper rash cream on drying up wounds (great for vitiemains in the cream) but is it ok to start it early before scaring happends?

I'm not sure how to answer your question as I dont know either. But I just wanted to say how terible I feel for you and what happened. What a nightmare (no pun intended!!) I can't believe some people would actually do this. About half a year ago in my area some stupid teenage girls went and stole some womens two horses in the middle of the night and put chains through the horses mouths to act like bits, attached to lead ropes and went riding down the highway!!! I hope your horse is ok and that whoever did that doesn't try again.

I would start out with a simple triple antibiotic cream or ointment. This will provide a good environment for healing tissues and help prevent infection.

i just thought of something, i dont know that this would work or not... just an idea. I know that vitamin E tablets (its like oil in a pill) you can pierce them and put the oil on cuts and wounds and they REALLY help reduce scarring and help to heal cuts faster. I just don't know that this would be benificial to horses or not? But i cant see why not.

lol friesian i thought about that at 5 this morning went to the med cab grabed a bowl and a pin at started peircing them ( i had some left over from my c-section from last july) waitted for the sun to come up and grabbed abby and did some hydro theropy on her first for about 20 mins and then took the vitemine e and started rubbing it over her cuts, i went and did the whole thing over again around 5 tonight and most likley i'll just do the hydro again around midnight.
we're not sure who got in there, we had some problems with 2 young boys from down the street 2 years ago getting in to our pen with our paint stud lucky, that stopped when i spoke to one of the parents, we have a phyciodic neighbour who is bipolor and sciztophinic who has been making our lives a living **** for the past 3 years and is calling the sheriffs department on us constanly, he has cut our fences to many time to the point where they sheriff came and order us to get rid of most of our horses, he's call srs making false claims about our kids.....we want to sell our farm but who will buy it with a nut living next door, it's now come down to where i really hate the sheriff even know my husband is with sheriffs dep (our sheriff take sides of the bigger farmer) and we are a small farm, he also has no knowlage of live stock of any sort so it's a waist of time to report any thing that involves our horses, i've order i solor power light for the pen and barn area that will be on all night, my other neighbour on theother side has a huge wooling (scarry looking too) big dog that potrols both of our farms at night he now get's treats left our for him at night so he'll hang around here longer.

Vitamin E works well...I've used it quite a bit. Bacon grease also works good. We've used the bacon grease on horses the vet swore was going to scar and they never scarred. If you go with the vitamin E, instead of poking pins into the pills (I used to do that & it takes forever lol) you can buy little bottles of the oil. If I remember right, they're under $2 at Wal-Mart. They're in the same section as the capsules.
