Sammy - Dirty to Clean to Dirty
What a nice fall day here in the mid-Atlantic, if you can ignore the morning rain. It hit 72!
Pulled my Appaloosa, Sammy, out to do some ground work with him. He was learning how to ground tie. He loves rolling in the mud and rubbing it in EVERYWHERE.
Since he's dirty and we're battling rain rot and it was 70 degrees, bath time! Maybe I can finally get all the pink halloween paint out of his hair.
He was not amused.
Trying out his new cooler. It's a little big, but he's got some growing to do.
and now some action shots once we're mostly dry and brushed out.
and of course when I turned him out.. he ran to play.. and came back for a drink looking like this.
Oh well, I tried.
Every single time Teddy has worked to the point that he starts sweating, even just a little, after the ride he will go fall down in a muddy patch and get himself looking similar. The good thing is, he is bay.. so you don't see it that much.. just my manicure suffers scrubbing all that sand out of him..
But horses really hate being clean.. well mainly they hate us adjusting their coats.
He looked great while it lasted! Gotta love them. He is handsome clean or dirty though

He's a pretty guy :).
OP, I bet you groaned when you saw him after he rolled after you cleaned him up so pretty.
<nice pix against the red barn!>
Our current horse has so many issues related to 'wet' that the only time he gets washed is when it rains. This morning, I went out to him and he was soaked after a couple of heavy down-pours and was coated on one side in wet sand. It was so heavy on his fly mask I couldn't even see his eye. I got him in a clean fly mask, got him fed and hayed, and left to run errands. When I got back about 2 hours later, he was still munching on his hay and the sand was dried to just about white. I brushed off some with my hands and decided to get my grooming tote to take advantage of his being as clean as he gets nowadays. As I walked back toward him with the tote, he basically told me to 'talk to the hoof' and walked away to find yet another wet & sandy spot to roll in. He is a stinker for sure! ;-D
I'm getting him use to being vacuumed. He doesn't mind the suction but he has no idea where the noise is coming from and it freaks him out.
hehe He sounds like my boy!! Hes a Palomino and I swear he is bound and determined to be a black horse like his brother!!! Such a bratty lil pig!! :)
We use to live in the Midwest, so we had lotsa' mud in the Fall and Spring... I used to come home after grooming to blow (TMI warning) black boogers... Ugh! ;-P
At least here where we are in Florida when we have wet our horses get coated in sand. That is an easier clean.
lmao I feel your black booger pain!! ;)
