Yarn vs Thread

I have always used thread for braiding a horse's mane, and now I'm leaning towards trying thread. Anyone prefer thread over yarn?

I've only ever used yarn. It seems like thread would be thin enough to break hairs when tied or pulled tight. It would be easier to handle, maybe. Less bulk. Perhaps embroidery floss could be a happy medium? Has anyone ever tried it? Maybe I will. Hmph! Now I'm rambling...

Haha, that's how I figured thread would be, but I heard otherwise? Probably depends on the mane.

Must be labeled differently in New Zealand. Why did you stop using thread?
