Begginer Riding Chinga In One Hour - Need Advice!
Well I've been working with Chinga a heap latly, I had my friend on him acting like a beginner, I've had mum ride him who had only 2 hour lessons before this and he was perfect. I've had my friends little sister have a ride on him a few times, but she had been walked and trotted around on Pumpkin (Yes the evil pony) by her sister (my friend) before this a few times. Chinga is going to have his first complete beginner on him. Were should I start? She isn't going to put the saddle on but I'm going to show her how (reason being Chinga doesn't like his saddle fiddled with alot).
When she gets on I'm only lunging her, but IF we do trot how do I teach someone to trot?
Well I'd wait and see how balanced and comfortable she is at walk. I recently taught my friend to trot on my Standardbred. He absoloutely hates when people sit trot if they bounce, so if your horse is anything like that, you'll want to get them to rise trot asap. Normally you can do this by telling them when to rise/sit. Up, down, up, down. Normally helps them.
If I remember correctly Chinga was really underweight, exercise is good but if your exercising him in "heaps" and rushing everything it might make everything worse and problems will sprout up. I'd say slow down a bit. If anything does happen to your friends while riding, it is your fault. Be careful~
Thanks for the help, she did a small ammount of trotting. But not much, Pumpkins owner also got on him and did some jumping on him. Both of them did really well, I finally got video of us jumping.
They are in the jumping section, I look really bad!
If this is her first lesson, I would keep it at a walk on the lunge line. Focus more on balance and getting her to keep her heels down, weight in her heels, hands steady, sitting up straight, etc. Then let her off the line when she's comfortable and work on walk/halt transitions, steering, seat and leg aids, all the basic stuff. I would only let her start trotting when she has a decent seat and keeps her weight down in her heels and knows how to control the horse mostly with her seat and leg.
I give trot lessons to my friends, i get them into 2 point when we first start trotting, and then i get them to post, and i say "up down up down" but i keep my ponies on a line and run along side them because things happen with lunging.
We did walk and trot on a lunge with my friend running next to Chinga and me in the middle, Chinga was perfect!
