i know, its a bit scary.
im from south australia and there hasnt been a case reported here yet[touch wood].
here is some of the latest news about all of this!!
there are a few headlinds to read but its worth it
those stupid people ignoring the travelling ban.people like that make me so cross.
where abouts in vic are you from?are you close to the nsw border?
I live in Bundaberg(Queensland)and we don't have any cases upb here yet but i hope it doesn't reach up here. we canceled pony club and Gymkanas. Do you have to put your horse down if it gets it ?
The flu is EVIL!
Gaaaah! You beat me to it!!!! I was going to tell everyone!! LOL!!
But yeah its pretty bad! Like I was gona go to the Warwick Three-day event but no-ones allowed in who isnt supposed to be there and I think some have been found with the Influenza so the bans goung for another 72 hours!!!
hahaha lol yeh though i might post this just in case peps didnt no lol....i live in ballarat area, your answer to if they get it do they have to be put down....answer to that is no lol as Bee said its just lik human flu but in horse industry.
i no that later on today there were two people caught bringing two horses from NSW in Vic they were on the main high way that goes from sydney to melbourn....now people like that make me really mad just how they dont even listen....thats how this can spread and thats what the lock downs for so that this doesnt happen, but no some people dont listen do they GRRRR...
just another thing for farriers if you get caught trimming or shoeing any horse thats not theirs then there is a $400,000 fine so its pretty much a forced holiday for farriers.
yeah I really hope it doesnt get to our pony stud!!
if the flu makes it to aunty lanas stud then we are absolutely stuffed!!
it is a bit like chicken pox in children......it just spreads like wildfire!
but back onto the stud farm.......all breedings have been cancelled and we cant take them to any shows.
i really hope it doesnt get tango :(
because she is so young it will really affect her
and we are also pretty lucky because we got the farrier in before then ban was declared
i dont mind the racing ban because all the people involved (gamblers, owners, guests, visitors, jockeys etc.) should be more worried about the health of their horses but not being able to ride around the forest and stuff is pretty annoying.....also i have been training for the adelaide show for ages (we were gonna take some horses/ponies out there and ride them in some events) but now we cant even ride outside our front gate!
good luck to all the other horse/pony owners out there......hope no other horses or ponies come down with equine flu.
fingers crossed that it doesnt reach honey ridge (our stud farm)
zero horses with the flu is plenty
EI is not fatal to fit and healthy horses eg. your fit eventing gelding/racehorse can still get sick but it won't die. It IS fatal however to foals (about 40% of infected foals die), pregnant mares (causes them to abort) and your older retired horses
