- - Dislocated Hip??

A friend of mine, who has a pony very close to me-Owen-came home one day to find him sort of crab-wlaking on his back legs. She seems to think it may be a disloacted hip. He will graze, but not often-which is weird for him-and when standing still, he crosses his back legs and leans on his left hip, and tenses his back so much that there is absolutely no dip in his back. He's a welsh cob pony, so there's always a small dip in his back. He really doesn't like it when i touch his back, as if its a fly and is very sensitive now about it. She has a chiropractor coming to see him, just wondering whether someone has had a horse or knows of someone who had a horse of the same. Thanks.

i've had a horse that dislocated its hip, if it will help you pick up the leg that is dislocated and push it up to the horses tummy, then backwards as far as you can get it then rotate it forward toward the horses nose. this should pop it back and if that doesnt work you can try backing the horse, esp backing it up a hill works really well too. i've had a chiropractor do this to one of our horses bc she dislocated it a lot after she was in a trailer accident.
