Harry Potter

Yeah, Iím a book nerd. To go further, definitely a Harry Potter nerd.

So who wants to talk about Harry Potter? Likes, dislikes, opinions of the books, opinions of the movies. Or my favourite, gripe about what they left out of the movies and contemplate how they can make up for it in the next ones :]

I saw the Half Blood Prince movie on the weekend, which prompted this thread. I had a thorough discussion about itís good points and flaws with my best friend, but am always up for more!

I thought the movie was great, and I am a Harry Potter Fanatic.

I do have to say though - I believe that one of the pieces of Valdamorts soul, is in Harry Potters scar....dum dum dummmm..

I think it was well done. Of course, there were a few things that were changed from the book, but I think most of it was necessary to keep the story moving and not have to explain every tiny thing. I don't think anything they changed adversely affected the whole thing.

I loved it :)

Have you read the books, MIEventer?

*HALF BLOOD PRINCE AND DEATHLY HALLOWS SPOILERS*

I really liked most of the movie. I don't really mind the stuff they left out, cause it's easy enough to pick up the books... However. It's going to take a lot of tweaking to make the next movies work considering some of the omissions in this one.

1. Seeing as they burned down the burrow and cut out Bill and Fleur, I can only conclude that they will cut the wedding at the start of the next book. Not too big of a deal though, nothing hugely plot-centric happens at the wedding that can't be changed.

2. The exclusion of Phineus Nigelis (sp?) and Kreacher from this movie makes me wonder how they a) Find the locket, and b) communicate with Kreacher.

3. The exclusion of the Hepzibah memory concerns me... How is Harry going to discover that Hufflepuffs Cup is a horcrux? I also think (but could have just mised it) That they cut out Dumbledore's idea that Voldemort would have wanted an item from each founder of Hogwarts; How does Harry discover that Ravenclaws Diadem is a horcrux?

4. By missing out the funeral, I can only guess that they will have to introduce Dumbledores tomb and the fact that they buried him with his wand in the next movie. Annoying, but do-able.

And things that just irked me:

The fact that Harry just hid, instead of being immobilised by Dumbledore... Presents a very different Harry than we see in the books. The book Harry was trying to do everything in his power to break the spell so he could defend Dumbledore. It also weakens our view of Dumbledore; In the books, the only reason dumbledore is disarmed is because he used those few seconds to immobilise Harry. Whereas in the movies, it seems he is to weak to defend himself/apparate (i'll get to this!!) or hide himself; Yet he had strength enough to conjure the fire used to ward off the Inferi.

YOU CAN'T APPARATE INSIDE HOGWARTS! Even if you are Dumbledore!!! This is a set-in-stone rule! It changes Malfoys plan... As in the books he set the dark mark as a tra to lure Dumbledore back, and specifically to the astronomy tower. In the movie, how does Malfoy know to find Dumbledore on the Astronomy tower?

I LOVE the Harry Potter series!!!!!!!!!!
I went to see the movie yesterday :)
I actually liked it even though it did leave out some important stuff like the other memories and I was disappointing that they didn't include Bill and Fleur, which probably means that there's not gonna be any wedding in the next movie :( And also the fact that they didn't include the fight at the end between the Death Eaters and the Order Of The Phoenix and DA. And also the funeral. :(
I loved the scene where Ron had taken the love potion and hugged Slughorn xD SOOO FUNNY!

I saw Half Blood Prince at midnight! Yes I am a geek and proud of it! I absolutely loved it. Although i thought *character name here*'s death scene was a bit corny. Just my opinion. Bellatrix was wicked awesome as usual!

I know, I love Bellatrix, then again I love Helena Bonham Carter in just about anything she does :]

I enjoyed the movie, but I also read the books. My boyfriend didnt like it at all, he said they could have put everything into 30 minutes and not wasted so much of his time. He also said he doesnt care about the next one because he feels like he didnt learn anything from this one. Now, he is extremely opinionated and tends to get worked up over small things (haha).

I thought they should have included some more memories - even if they dont have the time for them all, at least have Dumbledore say something (ie, Did you notice Harry, how Tom RIddle was a smooth talker/ very manipulative; he had a way of getting info out of people). And also, he should have said something about the founders of Hogwarts, so there was at least a hint for Harry.

And I also did not like the last scene. It made Harry look like a whimp and a coward. If they are hurt for time, why not cut out some of the girl stuff and put in more info?

Okay, my rant is over. lol

I totally agree. I liked the movie, but mostly only because it was Harry Potter and I was a giddy 6th grader again. I was surprised they focused so much on Harry and Ginny and HermionexRon relationships rather than the horcruxes and such. When they go to find the first "horcrux" in the book, it was such a huge epic scene in my head. In the movie, it seemed like they just kind of threw it on in the end.

I did like how they seemed to kind of show Draco's struggle in the book, you were able to kind of feel sorry for him and relate to him.
