Here are some pictures, of me and my 3 year old mare at her 5th show in her life.(:
And here's a video of a run on speed barrels I did about two days ago. (Sorry it's not the best)
Feel free to tear me apart, I don't get offended easily. I'd like all the help I can get! I also have a question, my mare is SO ratey that I have to usually whip her twice right before the barrel, is there any way I could get her more freed up?
you should NOT be running a 3 year old like that. That is my critique. Your going to ruin her before she's even done growing. Gah!!!

She's going to be 4 in like 2 weeks and I barely ever run her. Those pictures where from August and that video is the first time I've ran since then.
Just let her be a horse first. She may be fine and willing now - until her mind can't handle and/or her body cant handle it.
Guys I know! I've only ran her a handful of times, at it was all as a late 3 year old. She's going to be 4 in two weeks. I'm not going to run her a lot until she's almost 5. So don't worry! Normally when I ride her it's slow work or trails.
If you know better, why did you do it?
And if you knew it wasnt the best idea, why post asking for a critique?
I consider barrels to be just as tough on a horse as jumping good sized jumps. I don't even let a horse look at a little jump until they are four, and then only little ones until five. It is just too easy to blow out a hock or do major damage on open knees and growing joints.
If you let her run her speed, why do you have to whip her twice before the barrel?
Because when she canters she rates down so much I have to push her past, and just my legs don't do the trick. That's why I asked for help on that so I could get her more freed up.
