Running the fence
When turned out.
Okay, I have a pair of geldings that run the fence SOMETIMES when they are turned out.
They share fences with a lot of other horses that do not do this, they have water, they have plenty of grass + they get a little bit of hay in the AM when they are turned out, to save the grass a little.
They are in at night and out during the day. Both also have symptoms of buddy horses.
I think I need to split them up, but hate to wreck the other very peaceful turn out situations.
They run until they are wet and hot. It's been over a month and they still continue...not all day, not every day but many days.
What do do? Should I ignore? or change what? In the winter, this will be unacceptable. This summer, I've just brought them in when it's hot.
They both get fly-sprayed before they go out as well (not that fly spray works great anyway).
I used to have a mare that paced the fence, not running like your boys, anyway I could never get her out of it completely but did manage to curb it a bit. I placed tyres along the fence line intermittantly so that she would have to think about where she was pacing.
Sorry I couldn't be of much more help, but usually once this habit is formed there is no going back. :(
