How often do you replace your halter?
So how often do you replace your horse's everyday halter? I will wash and clean it up to extend its life and as long as it isnt hurting the horse I keep using it. I just ask cause I bought April a new one the other day because her old one was... well worn.

I use Weaver halters, so they last me years. I have a navy blue halter that still looks VERY decent that I've had for 5 years or so. However, I usually replace High Five and Trigger's halters once a year, just because I get tired of looking at the same color.

I also have a Weaver halter and it still looks like new even though it has been through the dirt, etc. for the last year and a half. Every time I go to the tack store I oogle the halter because of all the pretty colors. I always want to get a new one but I never actually need one, so I have to bypass them.

I really Like Weaver halters as well. They are just made well. Aprils last halter was well over 3 years old... But it helps that it isnt on her all of the time.

I have had my horse for six years and he is still wearing the halter I bought for him the first day I got him. He has broken two lead ropes though.

I only have one halter for my mare, but about 3 lead ropes. One with a chain (not that I ever use it, but just in case I ever may need it!) and 2 without.

I use only top quality Leather halters, so they need replacing only every 4-6 years. I clean and condition them about 3-4 times a year, bathe my horses in them, and store them in my tack room when not in use. My last halters were Horsefare Leather Halters
and they did really well. They still are functional, just "worn". I ended up giving them to a friend and she's using them as turn-out halters for two of her hard to catch horses. They've been on them for 8 months now and they're still going strong!
My current halters are ThinLine Padded Leather halters
. I like the leather and hardwear, but after 2 years of use, the ThinLine padding is starting to get some minor surface cracking in it. I probably won't be buying those again (especially considering the $125 price tag!).
I buy new fun colored lead ropes every year though ;-).

Unless someone is really into going big or going home, I dont understand why some people get the $100+ leather halters. I spent 20$ on my nylon halter, and it has lasted (and is still lasting) me a good 2 years. And you could buy a new nylon/synthetic halter AND lead rope every year, and still not pay as much for ONE leather halter? I just dont see the point. hah yeah it looks a little sharper, but thats about it?

I have a tack obsession, I buy lots of halters!
I would recommend replacing a halter if it becomes worn, i.e. fraying, loose stitching, etc as that could be a safety hazard.
