I've started showing this summer, and I've been using a friend's set of wraps to do standing wraps for the shows that are an hour or more away, just to be cautious with Sandie's legs.
But I'd like to get my own set of wraps to use...I know I'd like to get a quilted wrap of some sort, but I'm a little perplexed about the polos/bandages that go on the outside to secure the quilted wrap.
What type of polos or bandages are those?? They don't feel like regular polo wraps that I would use when Sandie and I are jumping or anything...those are more like fleece and these polos being used for the standing wraps seem to be more stretchy and made of a different, thinner fabric. But are they just another type of polos or are they called something else altogether? Would these be them:
Stable bandages: Pony Stable Bandages - Dover Saddlery.
I just want to make sure I don't buy the wrong thing, and I'm ordering online!
well first of all, I wouldn't get the quilts. I have No-Bow wraps that are very protective and put me at ease about having the wrap too tight.
Jack's No-Bow Wraps 14"
I would also get the nylon wraps, not fleece. Fleece gets really dirty and isn't as flexible as nylon.
Ok, I had to place my order, so I went ahead and ordered these:
Stable bandages: Extra-Long Stable Bandages - Dover Saddlery.
Quilted wraps: Quilted Leg Wraps - Dover Saddlery.
I hope I ordered the correct items! :-) But if not, I guess I could always have them change the order, since I just placed it. I had to go ahead and place it because I was also ordering custom saddle pads for my friend and her mother, who have been letting me trailer with them this summer to the shows, and I want to be sure those get here in time!
Oh geez of course someone replies right after I place the order LOL! :-) Are the ones I ordered fleece? I def don't want fleece! I thought they were a diff material...they appear to be on the website anyway if you look at the color swatches. Has anyone ordered these before?
I don't think those are fleece. They look like nylon or some other kind of blend to me. That's exactly what I use. If you know how to wrap them they protect tons and last forever. They also don't slide down and get irritating like most other shipping stuff in trailers. I have a very fussy gelding and thats all he tolerates for trailer rides.
idk they look like fleece to me but maybe not. its so frustrating that no one puts the material on the product page! lol. if they are fleece its not bad they are just harder to clean and dont have as much give
Flannels are the only thing I use, and they are called Flannel Bandages. I won't use nylon, they can get too tight and be tense in some places and not others Velcro or not I always secure them with masking tape and they should be rolled with the softer side in, facing the leg, even though it doesn't touch the skin. I could use the nylon if I wanted because I have wrapped a thousand standing bandages, but I would prefer not to have them in the barn so that no one else makes the mistake of using them. You don't get cool colors with flannels, but you get safety.
thats why i have the No Bows...safety
