arabian saddle fit

4 Attachment(s)
So I have two arabians. One is large 15.3 and I use a billy cook roping saddle with full quarter horse bars and it dfits him well. I use a arabian saddle on the mare and it doesn't fit too bad but when I try to use the roping saddle on the mare it slips and won't stay in place. I want a very comfortable 17" western trail saddle for my husband so that he can ride her. What saddle works for your arabs? He won't fit my 15" arabian saddle. We had him sit in some saddles and the 16.5" fit well but he feels more comfortable in a 17". He likes a higher cantel and trying to find something that fits him and the horse is difficult. Any recommendations? Thanks

.

Full QH Bars generally relate to a 7" gullet and a bar angle of 94 degrees.

Arabian Bars generally relate to a 6.75" gullet and a bar angle of 90 degrees.

If a larger tree is put on a narrower Horse the saddle move around as the bars are not making good contact with the Horse...

That makes sense...have any recommendations on brand that isn't $1500? He only rides occasionally and don't won't to spend a fortune.

I found a good Circle Y for around $750 with Arab bars. Have you looked on ebay?

won't a 17" seat, on an Arab's back, bring the back of the saddle skirt really far back and make it interfere with the hips? Is your husband really tall? because he looks like he could fit a 16 inch just fine, especially if he drops the stirrrups a bit.

Look for a good used Dale Chavez, mine fits all my Arabs and is the most comfy saddle I've ever ridden.

Good point, many people use a Saddle with a rounded skirt to alleviate that problem
