Barn kittens and HF
I finally made it out to the barn to get some photos of my barn kittens before they get to big. There are 6 of them total They are about 3 weeks old (?) The last photo of just 2 together is the runt who isn't doing very well. I had to bring it into the house yesterday to clean its eyes out. They never have opened really well like the others and they keep getting sealed shut.
The larger kitten is Paulie the only one of 2 that survived from an earlier litter of 6 that I can touch and pick up. I try to find them when they are little and get them used to me so I can give them medi and such. The mom moves and hides them if I spend too much time with them though :-( The other large kitten outside in the grass has no name and runs if I get too close. I'm surprised I got a photo.
I'll throw in a photo of HF my oldest hen. Her name is Henryetta's Friend (long story) but I call her HF
She is a buff orpington. She likes to eat the foam packing peanuts I put down under the kittens.
Very cute. The packing peanuts are more a hazard to both chicken and cats than a help, though, so you may want to rethink that bit. Love the chicken, btw, have a soft spot for the cluckers.
Awwwww, what cute little kitties! Such cute little kitty ears! Are you going to keep them all?
I put the peanuts down for the litter that got born in the dead of winter and it was super cold. The mother moves them so often they won't be there in a few days and I'll have to hunt for them again.
I do need to clean up the kitty bed peanuts though, I'm afraid the chickens like them a bit too much. My husband told me the were made from some sort of corn process. Thats why the chickens like them.
Yes, I will keep all the kittens that make it. They have a habit of disappearing. I'm not sure if a tom cat comes in and gets them or if the mother cats just moves them elsewhere. My neighbor and I both feed stay cats so they may end up over there. For all the kittens born here (I've lost count how many) I only have 4 semi full grown barn cats. They are all basically feral cats. I don't particularly like cats but I like that they keep my barn mouse free.
Wild Kitties have a tendency to disappear. We got my 2 young to make sure they didnt "disappear". So cute BTW ;):)
