Circle Y cutting saddle

7 Attachment(s)
I have the opportunity to buy a 17 inch circle Y cutting saddle from tacktrader.com. The saddle is like new. It belonged to a woman who's husband bought it but started having back problems soon after and quit riding. It is in mint condition. The dark brown color with basketweaving and the matching breastcollar. She is asking $750.00 for it, which everyone has told me is a great deal. My question is, she can't find the plate but I have been in contact with this seller for days and that doesn't really matter much to me as I plan on being buried with this saddle :D. My question: are most of the circle Y saddle's full QHB? Without the plate, we can't tell and she isn't really sure herself. She said her husband used the saddle on his wide quarter horse so I am sure it will fit paul. I will post a pic of the saddle. Thanks.

The saddle appears to be well used although in nice condition. The suggestion in the ad that it was only used a few times in wrong - the saddle was used quite a bit. The rough out and seat, to point out the obvious, do not get that appearance from just a few rides, it takes hundreds of rides. This isn't to say that it is not a nice saddle, only that it is not like new.

As for the bar size, have her put a ruler in front of the saddle at concho level. That way we can get an idea of gullet width. From the gullet width, we can get an idea of the bar size (angles).

I agree with iride, it's not "like new", but in "good condition". It's nice looking overall. Personally I'd say $750 is little too much, but I didn't deal with cutting saddles from Circle Y before (just trail ones). So may be it's indeed a great deal.

BTW, I just noticed that the plate seems to be on the latigo hanger (unless that is just an oblong concho).

I think you could find a better looking dark oil used of course circle Y for 750$... But this one does look nice!

I find $750 to be cheap! i have never bought a used saddle before and all my saddles(cutting saddles) are all custom built so im used to paying..well...an arm and a leg. i would have paid that for that saddle but i have no idea the quality of Circle Y since ive never rode in one...

i agree with iride...get a ruler and measure.

good luck. hope it fits paul
