When I had my horses boarded on post, they were wormed every month, with different brands rotationally.
I've had my horses on my property for a year and I've still been doing the same thing.
Do you worm like that? Is that too much?
The most frequent I have ever had recommended is bi-monthly. There was some very interesting and thought provoking information posted recently in another worming thread that suggested much less frequent worming than that - can't remember who it was that posted, but it was good info and something I am looking into adopting.
BTW, which post were you boarding at? I take it you are military associated - and had seend such a trend of late that was closing most post stables I wasn't sure there even were any still active.
this is the thread I was thinking of
Ft Campbell KY runs it as a business, they make a lot of money off the civilians as well as the military so they won't be closing it down anytime soon.
We're going to Camp Atterbury, IN in the next couple of months and I'll be boarding again. I've been told there's a horse park at Atterbury but I can't find any information online.
I worm my horses every 2 or 3 months, depending on the season. I go by a worming chart and it tells me what kind of wormer needs to be used in what month. Very useful!
I deworm every 6 to 8 weeks and alternate mostly between quest plus, ivermec, quest, ivermec plus and I do 5 days of double dose Fenbendazole once a year.
I have done the daily Strongid and power packed 1 to 2 times a year.
I have not checked a fecal recently but last year it was completely negative.
i also worm every 6 to 8 weeks. My horse lives outside and i've never had a problem with worms.
Awesome! Thanks everyone I really appreciate it!
