i went 2 get my horse in last night and he was covered in bot eggs i had it everyday last summer drove me mad lol:-P any ideas how i can help him so he doesnt get so many of them or is there no way of stopping or making not so many of them?
Regularly worming your horse should help (usually with ivermectin). I've heard that a good way to remove them is with a razor to scrape them off. But make sure that you remove them immediatly and in a place where other horses and your own can't ingest.
i have one of those pourous black blocks that i use to scrap them off of him. he didn't seem to be too infested this year with them. just some on his chest and his front legs and once i scraped them off, he didn't get anymore. glad to know that it might also be because of his deworming meds.
You can buy a bot knife, it has several sharp edges and works a treat! I have 2! :)
I use a bot knife, they are sold at most horse supply stores and aren't very expensive. I read on this forum that they come off better if you wet them with warm water first (to simulate the horse licking them) And it does make them come off easier. You will want to worm your horse with a boticide after the first frost/freeze. It's kind of a waste to do it before then because the horse will just ingest more and reinfest.
As Nonipony said scrap them off in a place away from where the horse eats. Preferably on dirt or pavement.
