Bumps/knots on paint horse nose
We have an 8 yr. old paint (tobiano), who has had a bump or knot at the end of his muzzle for almost 2 months now..I thought it was a sting or bite, but it's still there. He also has a few small bumps that have recently surfaced since the heat index has been above 100. His muzzle is white so he is sensitive to the sun & has to wear sunblock sometimes. Has anybody else experienced this skin disorder or bites? He's such a pretty boy, but sure would look better without the bumps.
hard to tell, you really didnt give us much info on it. is it hard? soft? fluid filled? large? small? did it just appear one day? does it ever change in size?
my broodmare recently developed a hard lump about hald the size of a marble on her face by her eye. the vet says she may have gotten a splinter or something in there and COULD take it out if we wanted. but it doesnt bother her at all, so we left it because there is no point in cutting her face to get "something" out, when its not bothering her.
on another note, there are some UGLY lumps out there are are self inflicted, like my mare. she was extremely headshy when we got her, and tossed her head if you walked by her stall and wacked it. she ended up breaking her nose a few times and has this lump. if its anything like this, which feels "fatty" to the touch, its not going away unless to cut or freeze it off.
My 2yr old tobiano pony, Lucy, has a knot at the end of her nose, and it was there when we got her. I am positive in her instance it was from having been kept in barbed wire and it is scar tissue. Not the prettiest thing. . .but it doesn't bother her. Of course, doesn't sound like this is an injury, of course. . .
I am not sure. . .it could be from the sun, as you say, if he is that sensitive.
I have a Tovero gelding and a Tobiano stallion. The stallion is always getting little rashes (like poison ivy) and they both get lumps and bumps. It's hard to tell what causes them - I'm sure there are a number of different causes. :? Do you have any pictures?
My baby had lots of lumps all over his muzzle when I got him. The vet said they were a fungus, and to put vasoline on them to starve the fungus of air. It worked! Within 2 weeks they were all gone. If it is that easy, maybe try it first?
