My first time on foal watch! **The colt is here!**
I've been lurking, reading everyone's threads for about a month, but I didn't make an account until today. First off, thanks to everyone who is constantly giving advice/answering questions for everyone. It's been so great reading them all, and I've learned a ton!
First off, disclaimer... I will continuously refer to "Don't" as "my horse" or "our horse" etc, but she is actually my Mom's horse. Mom has a small farm where she has a whole petting zoo full of mostly rescued animals. I consider all of her animals as "mine," even though they aren't really. My kids and I practically live on her farm anytime the weather is nice, but in reality we live about 10-15 minutes away. (Just clearing up any confusion in case I go back and forth between "my horse" and "Mom's farm" etc.)
Anyway! "Don't" is a Quarterhorse/thoroughbred. She's had a colt before, but we didn't have her. This is our first time having a pregnant mare. We've had her for a few months now (Since June, maybe?) and she is due on January 24. We've had puppies, kittens, baby goats, a baby llama, and tons of other babies, but never a foal, so we're pretty excited.
Here's a belly pic from day 329:
And an udder picture from day 330 (Not much to see here)
And her vulva on day 330. (We think it looks kind of relaxed, but we never actually looked at a horse vulva before the past week or two)
We tend to get way too excited about babies and sleep in the barn for weeks, but we're trying to stay calm. We're doing our best to convince ourselves that we've still more than likely got a few weeks to go. Any opinions, advice, stories, etc are welcome!
Welcome to the Forum :D
Here is something that is very helpful for foal watch: Foaling
Each mare is different, hope everything goes smoothly with a healthy mom and foal

Thank you again for the welcome, and for the helpful link.
Keep us posted with pictures please, looking forward to hearing about how it all goes for you guys. It's exciting and also super stressful lol
I started a blog for family friends who are wanting updates. You're welcome to read it if you're interested. (http://dontidoubtit.blogspot.com/) There are more pictures there because it's easier to post pictures there and I'm lazy. I'll update here also, though!
Good luck to you and your mare.
Your mare and Buckshot are TOO CUTE. Love the picture!
That's usually how it works. Last year I foaled out 8 mares, managed to see ONE of those all the way through. I live in my barn from February till May! I have ten this year and I'd like to try to see at least half of them all the way through
I'll be lurking, waiting for baby photos :). Good luck with your mare.
I can't wait!!! My mares due soon as well ( well i hope) I haven't been sleeping, im like a walking zombie!! hahaha Good luck and ill be waiting and checking in to see if anything's new:)
