Got to brag on my 2 old gals
Just thought that I would share a few pics of my 2 old gals. First up is Cheyenne we have had her for about 5 years now. The BEST horse for a little girl that wanted to learn to ride. This mare has taught my daughter a lot and is still teaching her more and more. Chrissy learned how to be a good looser on Cheyenne and that it is not all about the winning but about having fun. Cheyenne took Chrissy at her first ever county fair to her first ever second place ribbon. Chrissy had her first fall off Cheyenne and saw that yes you can get back on. And Cheyenne helped Chrissy get over her fear of cantering. And even though Cheyenne is 33 years old the 2 of them are still learning starting polocrosse this Sunday.

Then for our other old lady. This is Katie. She was a rescue that we took in. She has taught my kids that there are times that we have to give up that new playstation game to pay the emergency vet bills. Here is that story, vet had to come out for a Katie one weekend and my youngest (he is 12) came up and said "my mom is always paying all the horse bills and Katie is my horse so I want to pay this bill". He handed him a $20 bill (that he had been saving for a playstation game). The vet was so touched that he marked that bill paid in full and handed it to him and said "well there you go you have paid your first vet bill" (the bill was like $200) She has taught them proper care of horses, and that horse don't have to be skinny just cause they are old. She has taught them that even if you different you are still loved. Katie is missing and eye and that is what my son said when a friend of his was poking fun at her, he said "She may not be perfect but she is still loved by us".
This is Katie a few weeks after we took her in. March 2009

And this is her now after a few months of love and care. August 2009

Just wanted to share a few pics of the priceless old ladies on the farm. I love these old girls and they will never leave my farm. These 2 horses are attached at the hip, in fact about the only time you see them apart is when you are feeding them then as soon as they are done they are back together in the pasture.
Special feed and supplements - $300
Emergency vet bills - $900
Extra farrier visits - $100
Having a healthy senior horse to love - Priceless.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Aww, That is so sweet of your son. That is a true bond between horse and human. They are beautiful girls. I love their markings and they both sound so sweet and loving. You are very lucky along with your gorgeus girls. :)

It is touching that your children have been able to learn some important life lessons through their experiences with your family and horse activities. So many parents can't seem to share with their kids in a way that relate true life experiences into well learned life lessons. It is obvious to me that your kids will grow up with a solid, realistic and good understanding of animals and their responsibilities and how they impact our lives. Thanks for sharing.
