Is it to late???

Im starting to think that it is to late to start duchess on reining or cutting. I mean most reining or cutting horses are being shown by the time they are 3 years old, duchess is 7. Those horses are also bred to be a cutting or reining horse, duchess is not really. Im just thinking that it is just to late.

"Only those who risk going far will ever know how far they can go".

If you don't expect to show her on national level then why not to give it a try? At least she is not ruined health-wise like those horses, who worked like a hell at 3 years old...

IMHO those 3 yr olds are worked too hard and come up lame early in their lives (from the ones I've seen in my area). She's a good age to train her. She'll most likely do well and last longer doing it. Go for it RJ! :)

Thanks! Ya im not expecting the next smart chic olena lol. Just something to get me started.

My horse hadnt been ridden in five years he was seven when I got him the first thing I did was start reining and he is great at it like not pro but he can place in local shows. I say go for it:wink:

The only reason they start training and showing at that age is to enter the futurities and try to make big money. It is NOT in anyway the best thing for the horse.

Give her a go. She might surprise you.

as long as it doesn't cause her any harm I don't see why not :) Go ahead show up those three year old horses ;)

I agree. The reason cutting and reining horses are shown as two and three year-olds is an economic one. Your horse is capable of learning reining regardless of age. As far as cutting goes, most cutting horses go back to Doc Bar who was first a very unsuccesful race horse before becoming one of the most famous cutting horses in history.

I've been seriously considering trying to teach Lacey some reining moves because she really seems like she'd love it and she's 24, and an Arabian from racing lines! =D
Go for it! I bet Duchess will totally surprise you when you just let her do her thang'. =)

Thanks guys. Duchess is from doc bar lines and she also has king fritz (doc bar and king fritz are both one off her papers) in there to. Ya, i know that the reason most of those horses are showing as three year olds is for the money. I think i wil give it a go with her.
