Rein length?

I'm buying poly reins for my percheron and I'm not sure what length I should get for her. She's a big girl at 17.2 hands and a big ole neck. 8' sounds like it would be too short, I've seen some 9' and even some 10'. What do you guys recommend? Oh, I ride western and it will be for trail riding.

Thank you!

i use 60 inch english style, not split, for the part draft I ride. that's 5 feet. I wish I had some longer ones. typical english reins are 54 inches.

It's personal preference. See if you can try some friends reins of various lengths or find a store that will let you try various lengths or return them. Or just cut different lengths of rope and do makeshift ones just to see what works best and is most comfortable for you. Good luck! :D

I use 66 inch ones for my big guy, so bigger ones are out there! 60 is the typical oversize length.

OP, take some rope, bridle up your horse, then tie the rope like you would reins and experiment with different lengths until you find what works. Then measure what you end up with and buy the closest you can find to that. Or you could try the length of the sizes you know you can buy.
