Hackamores?

I was thinking about switching my gelding to a hackamore, just to see if he does better in it then a bit. Can anyone give me some suggestions or info about hackmores? Thanks!

I don't like mechanical hackamores. They can be much more severe than bits because of the pressure they put on the nose of the horse. If you want to try going bitless, I'd recommend the Nurtural Bitless Bridle or The Bitless Bridle by Dr. Robert Cook, FRCVS, Ph.D.

I love hackamores for trail riding. Have to say I didn't like the Dr. Cook's bridle. Sold it.

If you are not sure about how your horse will respond - put a halter ( headcoller ) on over the top of your regular bridle and attach a pair of reins

You can ride on the headcoller to see how your horse responds , but you will still have your regular bridle on just in case.
