old arab horse tore his bottom eyelid almost off
so we get up at 430am to get our horses ready for a show and our old man (29) Arab decided to walk up to us and guess what we saw???? He had managed to tear his bottom eyelid almost off including the socket (he is blind in that eye) we make the 1 hr 45min drive to the vet and it seems its not just us with the clumsy old timer cause there were 2 other old guys that were there for stitches. I didnt take pics of the injury cause i even got a little sick looking at it and nothing ever bothers me. The thing i learned is that you in fact can sew a eyelid back on. Lets hope it heals well and our padded bumpers come in for his stall lol.

Oh ouch! Thanks for not post pics. I cringe just thinking about it. I hope he heals up quickly and nicely.

Thanks for sharing that with us ( yuk )

I once had a horse shear two of her front teeth off at the bone.
She was all tacked up and ready to go , a horse behind her bit her rump - this made her lunge forward and she caught her two top middle incisors on the top of door which broke them completely in half, she then reared up because of the pain and went right over backwards and broke her saddle.

needless to say she then had to go to the vets for an op to tidy things up a bit.

At the vets there was a picture wall of injuries they had treated - one of the pictures was of a horse that had for some reason destroyed it's stable - during this the roof collapsed and part of the roof, a timber plank went right through its neck.
the owners had to cut the plank short and take the horse to the vet with the plank still in its neck - you could clearly see a 4" * 1" plank of wood entering half way down it's neck and exiting underneath. we were told that the horse reared up and impaled itself and somehow missed everythng vital so was able to survive.

both horses were Ok ofter their operations

yea me to right now he looks like he went 12 rounds with a boxer. the lesson i did learn is even if you think the paddock is old timer safe its not!! And that as long as the eye is not punctured to leave it in.

We had a horse do about this same thing at our barn! It was quite a sight! The eye swelled alot but healed up very well! Hope your boy does well!

I checked on him this morn and the eye looks better but he is trying to rub it the vet said to put a neck cradle on him till it heals but i thought that you were not supposed to leave them on that long????
