So this is my second week of lessons. And last week I rode alexa, who is a top level dressage horse. But what I really wanted to do (at least for now) is ride hunt seat and do some jumping, so yesterday Susan put me on Charlie.
Gorgeous! I think I'm in love! He is a dark bay, and he's super huuuuuge. he's like 17 hands, no joke. well... Maybe not quite that, but anyway, he's big. He's 1/8 draft and the rest thoroughbred I think. And he's 9 i think she said. Anyway, I did some circles, and then she let me jump, and I was only jumping like six inches to a foot, but he was like. Dude. I'm a top eventer. JUMP ME. So she laughed and said it looked like we would have to go bigger or he wouldn't take it seriously. So she put me up to 3 feet. My first time EVER jumping. It was awesome. And she said next time we'll go higher. EEP! yay though! Anyway, he's a sweetie. Anyway, just wanted to share, cause it was super fun. And, if charlie disappears from their stable, it wasn't me. *sneaky eyes* ha.
That was your first time jumping and she put you up to 3 feet!!!! Wow, she must think your in safe hands on that horse!
I think that you should post some pictures or videos. :D I would love to see them!
Interesting way to teacher a rider how to jump though, hehe, seems like if she was going to have you jump higher it would be like 2' max (for now) xD
Wow, first time jumping and you are already doing 3'0"? You must be pretty psyched.
I'm glad you are having a great time.
*sigh* Wish I had pics. My mom wasn't there and it's a private lesson, so no one to take pics for me. *Cries* Next week maybe I can convince my mom to come take some LOL.
That's what I thought! I don't really know anything about jumping, though, so I didn't want to sound completely stupid and be like. Um, what? But seriously when she put the jump at 2 feet, he wouldn't really run at it, he could just pop over it from a standstill. I was like, what? Then she told me that he was some kind of superb competition horse before he had an injury or something, so now he's only sound to do some lessons, I guess. He's a nice boy though. 3 feet was pretty much nothing to him. He just trotted toward it and like.. glided over it, it was SO fun.
MIE -- I'm super pumped! I didn't know if that was awesome or not, because that was my first time jumping, like with someone watching me at least, I've jumped a little at home just over some low poles and stuff, but my mare is mostly a western horse and she was like... HUH?! so I don't do a lot. I haven't done that for two years, either. But yeah, it's so fun!
eventer -- MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY! but I didn't want to say anything, so I just did it, and then Charlie perked his ears up and actually JUMPED. before he'd just been sorta doing it because he had to, not enjoying it... But as soon as we made it a big jump, he was totally psyched about it. LOL funny horse.
freckles - Yeah, he's a sweetheart. She told me that one time when this little girl fell off of him doing some serpentines, she was so small and he was so tall that she was just hanging there by her stirrup, and he just stopped and stood there while Susan ran over to help her. I guess she just lost her balance and fell off his right side. One of those things that just happens super fast. what a good boy. *huggles charlie*
