Photoshop Help!
I just got photoshop 7.0. I realize not many people have it, but I bet if someone has another photoshop... I mean they're not THAT different. Ok, so I want to learn how to do a horse photomanip. Like the one...
horse antlers by =atadwolfish on deviantART
Maybe minus the antlers/wings until I get to know how to do a more basic one...
If anyone can help me please please please PM me! Thanks so much in advance :)

If you are just starting photomaniping.. you won't be able to accomplish that until at least 5 yrs.

It takes time. You don't just buy a program and BAM your great.

Thats not the way it works :P

I can help you though.. If you have msn messenger, I can tutor you :)
I have been making manips for over 3 yrs now :)

It's not that difficult, depending on your artistic skills to start with.

Really it's mostly about erasing the background on the horse (erasor works best here, can try the extract filter too, or use a layer mask..but erasing with the erasor is good enough). Smudging or blurrying some chosen parts, like hooves and mane, can be good.
Then you chose a background, put it on a different layer.
Then use the layer adjustments (especially hue/saturation) to get it to match. Perhaps use dodge or burn to create shadows on the background from the horse.
Add text if you want, and just mess around untill you're happy.

It's not difficult to make it, technically, the hard part is yo get a good feeling in it and not all the tutorials in the world can fix that.

Sorry Horseluver50, but it doesn't have to take 5 years..:P It can take a month, it can take 10 years, all depends on skill, talent, how much you work with the program and how quickly you learn all the things there is to use :P

I've had photoshop for a year or so before making these..and I'm not usually into photomanips. I've only made a handful of them :)
as one

Crow unicorn

Creepy horse

Running Crow

What really helps tho is a graphics tablet, so that you have a pen to draw with.
And the more you have to paint to make it mend, the more diffiult it ios. There are lots of people way more skilled than me, but then again..I don't do manips much :)

I'd say go for the tutor offer, it's great to have help at hand when there is something you know is do-able but don't know how.

Photoshop is fun! I have CS2 on my computer... not sure what that equates to in photoshop numbers, but it's probly like 5 if 7 is the most recent... ANY WAY!

Basically you have a picture of a horse, and you cut it out and slap it on a background pic. (There's more to it than that, but you know). I personally just discovered the pen tool for cutting things out is really effective, but it takes a while to get the hang of it. I learned a lot of it just by playing around with the program. Deviant art should have some pretty decent tutorials too, if you do an image search for them. Then you can see screen shots of what they're talking about and learn some specific techniques.

Photoshop 7 is pretty old, CS4 is the newest :)

I have been working in photoshop for over 5 years. I work with the whole adobe suite as my job daily with some large companies. I do everything from digital drawings, photo manipulation, print and web design.
The very best way to learn is to read and try.

Photoshop Tutorials - Psdtuts+

Most people would agree even if you already know photoshop there are always more things to learn LOL SO the website above I've found to be a huge help. Start with some easy tutorials then get a little harder as you go on. But remember photoshop is all about your own style so try to fit that in somewhere :D Look for some photoshop forums most of the people there can be very helpful as well.

Oh gotcha. I just had a super old version of Elements before I got to school and started working with the CS versions. I wasn't sure if Photoshop had its own seperate numbering system since it seems to be the one that gets sold by itself most often.

I agree... it takes years to get a good handle on editing programs. A LOT goes into a manipulation like that. I wish I could help, but it would be too hard to explain things. The best thing to do is spend a LOT of time with your program and do tutorials.
