Still though... I understand that he has another "house" and that they initially took him in because his barn was destroyed, but it just looks like a disaster waiting to happen on all accounts. The walls of a house are not built to withstand hooves, or think of if he put a hoof through an interior door!
I had a friend that let her Quarter Horse gelding into the house. Is it something I would ever do? No. It could cause too much damage (to my horse and my house! xD) if something happened. College kids are bad enough, the last thing I need to do is add a 1,100+ lb monster to the mix.
^^ LOL that's exactly what I was thinking.. How would you keep your floors clean. I know my mare is just such a messy horse.. her stall is always a disaster in the morning
The horse has a stable and pasture, as well. In the video, they explain that he just likes to hang out in the house since the owner took him inside for safety reasons during the storm. It's a German house, they are much more solid than the average American house... he won't break through the wall or something .
My pony walks into the house if you leave the doors open, as well. Once, years ago, he made it as far as the living room, where my parents were just watching TV. He took a walk around the room, then walked back out through the kitchen, not forgetting to help himself to an apple from the fruit bowl...
My horses would probably come in the house if I left the door open! Especially if it is buggy out.
There are fans in the garage. My dad leaves the door open during the day so fumes don't build up in the garage. Well guess what? Last summer both horses wedged themselves into the garage. One was in the 3 feet wide space between the car and the wash machine, and the other horse was wedged up next to the lawn mower with her nose on the fan! I'm sure they would repeat that behavior if given the opportunity!
They've been known to walk through the garage if the side door is open as well, as that is a short cut to the back yard.
I think horses are much less weirded out by being in houses than we are weirded out by them being in houses. Safety issues aside (holey cow, are your floors strong enough?!) while bad things could happen, both horses and humans are Very adaptable. Reminds me of the story of prized arabian war mares being housed in their masters' tents.
