foul water contamination

hi all, newbee here,
we have a neighbour dishcharging his washing machine into our field, we have 3 horses grazing all the time.

a few weeks ago our cob passed away, seemingly old age, 20 plus
today our 24 year old is showing signs of mild colic/fatty tumor.the vets diagnosis.

would the washing machine have contaminated the ground?

could it be relevant to the death/colic?

should i inform DEFRA?

thanks in advance

I know that detergents can be toxic to smaller household animals. Horses, I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me.
