So Today, marshy and pepper got shoed.
OH boy ! do i really just want to bite the farriers head off !
Like im not kidding,
1 he has alchohol in his truck ! IN HIS TRUCK !
that bugs me that, he has that in the working vehicle... with a box of coke.... Jeez
Marshmellow did wonders for him.
But pepper, i had to coax her and everything, she was never shoed before and she was spooky and she tried rearing and she didnt want to stand, so he had to put a thing he called a lip in her mouth :(
I had to control it and jerk on it when she tried to rear or move or anything.
I didnt like it, nescarrily its just this string that you but on the gum,
The fact he made me use it is going to make her harder to retrain for bridling and GR, one time she backed up to rear, and he had it and he was freaking jerking on her like no tomorrow, i wanted to tell him to quit, so i tried to keep her as sound as possible. She had red marks across her gum, my poor baby.
I wanted to yell at him so badly to tell him to take that thing out of my horses mouth !
And Second complaint is that he said that sometimes you have to STARVE a horse abit to get them to get through to you, if they were to bite or something and i was staring at my dad giving him the hardest stare i could and was trying my best to keep my mouth shut but GOD **** !
I know this is a correction thing, it does get her attention but i dont want him ruining my horses mouth :( plus the fact it makes training alot more harder.
If you want to blame someone blame yourself. It is YOUR responsibility to prepare your horse to be shod. A lip rope or chain is fine and it won't make her hard to bridle. She needed to stand so he could shoe her safely. What would you suggest he do? Judging be your grammar I'm betting your still in Jr High so he has alot more experience than you do. Keep an open mind and a closed mouth and see if you can learn something. Don't think that your horse is so fragile that a little bit of discipline is going to ruin her.
Im in high school.
No i know this, but im just abit angry about it.
She has alot of problems already with bridling the bit, and i know this is to make she sure doesnt hit him or anything.
I Dont like HOW hard he was PULLING on the rope. I dont need a horse with A damaged mouth.
Thats what im Concerned about.
I would have been fine with it. But I dont want her to have misbehave, because of that experiance.
^ Honestly? Than you as the owner should have told him to STOP.
If you disagree with how someone is handling your horse it is your DUTY to step up.
I don't blame the farrier, though he may be ignorant, it was you who knew better.
I'm so sorry that you had such a horrible farrier experience!! :(
I was afraid to say something, from past experiances, my dad was there, he would have stepped in and told me to stfu.
So i did my best as possible, to PREVENT that happening, i didnt let him have the rope again and gave her slack when she stopped and put some pressure when she started to do something.
I talked to her the whole time, and when i talked to her, she stopped. she was very good. She even rested her head on my shoulder.
The fact also that my dad and brother were talking to me, made me abit distracted to me, they were being a bit rude.
They would try to push in and tell me to pull harder, and im not going to pull harder than i feel is nescissary.
:-\ Especially when she wasnt that bad,
Like stated, you need to get your horse ready for the farrier.
A twitch or lip rope isn't going to hurt your horses mouth if used properly.
However I wouldn't want a farrier pulling on my horse either (I can correct my horse just fine) and the starving and alcohol thing is kind of ridiculous.
You need to be your horses voice. There is no good excuse. If you don't like something that is happening to your horse, you need to change it.
Im sorry you had a bad experience..better luck next time.
Thank you, and yes i agree.
Time to work on some groundwork !
Hang in there. I've got a lot of groundwork to do with Carolina too. She was abused and neglected. She's quite honestly dangerous and though we try not to, she has to be sedated when she gets her feet worked on. But with more and more work I'm hoping that will happen less and less.
Keep at it!
